Progress on our smart sort plugin is currently on target for release in next couple of weeks.
A decision has been made to release 2 versions of the plugin
-
- Free Version
Will enable sorting of posts only
Sorting will only be available on fields from the wp_posts table
This essentially mean that sorting by: title, date added, date modified and comment count will be available. - Premium version
- Full set of features including sort/filter/search
- Once off price of $35
- …full feature list available soon.
A Demo of the plugin in action can now be seen over at http://wpsmartsort.dyasonhat.com/
Remaining Development
- User customization of forms
- Search form
- Plugin API functions for advanced implementation.

Hi there!
Would it be possible to have the “free” plugin to sort, within the code and without the dropdown GUI, eg. by a Custom Field “Date”?
Best Regards Krezz
Great. Looking forward to it.
Great. Looking forward to it
I am also interested in a sidebar Navigation Widget that allows the customization of a list to be made from many options before actually executed in the loop, with a preview of its output displayed in the widget before execution.
A mockup can be found here:
qurl.co.uk/cc78
Note, in my case:
‘Info Type’ would refer to the category from which potential posts for the list are taken.
Once selected, this then populates the next box:
‘Tag category’ which actually refers to all the custom fields contained within the posts of the just selected category.
Once selected, this then populates the next box:
‘Select tags’ which actually refers to the values present in posts containing the just selected custom field.
Once selected, the sample output is produced in the box below of post titles successfully matching the query, whereby if the user is happy, they can then run the query to display in the loop.
The box below “Display’s output” refers to an idea where posts in other categories have already been linked to the posts in the “Sample Output” and can thus be displayed in the loop instead. I guess it’s not relevant atm.
“Currently showing” refers to the currently displayed loop’s active query parameters. In fact, this box would be moved over to the right column and the “New Query” box below removed.
Hi Adrian I like the idea of ‘informing’ the user about there selection, particularly the number the posts (if you’re going to get 0 posts you wouldn’t run the query).
Your idea is not too difficult to implement and might well be useful, it won’t be in this initial release of the plugins but will most likely include it, or something like it in the next major release.
Thanks for the idea.
Hi Krezz,
The free plugin does include the option to set the default sort order on the backend, whether a user chooses to add the drop down to the theme template is up to them.
Cheers

Hi,
I have 2 questions concerning the premium version :
. Will it work with the Wp Super Cache plugin ?
. Will the users have the ability to choose a number of posts to display on the tag/category/search page ?
Regards,
Fabien
Hi Fabien,
Super Cache: Yes the plugin is working with super cache, its been written with maximum compatibility in mind and hence only uses recognized wp hooks and actions to do what it does and NO ‘hacks’. Hopefully this’ll mean less issues with other plugins. Caveat: The plugin is developed soley on the WP 2.7 branch and currently super cache doesn’t work with WP2.7 so I tested the plugin with WP 2.6.5 and Super Cache 0.8.5 and both worked great.
Choose number of posts per page:This was a feature I was going to implement but at one point decided not too as I figured that nobody would really use it, but hey maybe for completeness of the “CMS” nature of the plugin I’ll include it, should be pretty quick to implement.
Thanks for the idea & Q’s.

Hey Dyasonhat,
Looks great, amazing work, and thanks for listening to users feedback.
As I said in a previous post comment, I plan on using it to allow my users to order posts by a rating system (0-5), which I set via custom fields.
As I want to use custom fields, I guess I need to premium version.
What currency is R35? What would it be in £ or $ ?
Many thanks
Hi,
*oops* the ‘R’ is meant to be $ guess I hit the wrong key.
Hi, just can’t wait to see working version, both payed and free. When exactly will it be released? I am running a css gallery and my site is dying for something like that. Also will localization and control styling be hard? I am asking this if paying version maybe will be encrypted or something… and is final price of paying version set?
Thank you
Ah sorry, nevermind the price, i’ve just read
Hi Daedal,
Release date is flexible but could even be within 2 weeks. I’m busy working on the ‘API’ for the plugin to enable custom implementation for developers who prefer more control over the look and functionality. Localisation framework will be available but others will need to provide translations.
Premium Version will be encrypted.
Price is pretty much set, just before I release I’ll put up a posting asking for beta testers to submit their ‘credentials’ and provide free copies to 3 testers.
Ok great, can’t wait. Reason why i ask about encryption/localization is cause my web site is in Croatian language and it has a specific design, so no matter how cute current controls (graphics) look I’ll need to change them and of course translate everything in Croatian. But most definitely sign me up for premium
need more control.
Something similar going on at:

I suppose you’ve already seen it.
Hi Adrian,
Thanks for the info, actually had no idea about that project; was really interesting reading about PODs. I’m sure there would be many who would benefit from their plugin. I’ll keep following their development.
Regards
Dyasonhat.
