I just finished catching up some sorely missed WordPress.tv watching and was interested in some of the points Matt mentioned in his interview. As a plugin developer I’m always interested in hearing about the implementation of the WordPress platform since it serves as a rough guide as to the potential of where my plugins could end up being used.
I must admit after listening to the interview I’m enjoying fantasizing about whether somewhere in the CIA some is using smart sort or category dropdown plugin to navigate a top-secret blog.
And hearing that about 50% percent of WordPress users now implent it as a CMS speaks volumes for need for EASY to use and install CMS type plugins.
For a while now I’m been considering going GPL with with my premium plugin and have recently begun the search for a way of implementing a WP-ecommerce type way of providing the core free & GPL compatible and then selling premium modules to keep the cash flow going (a programmers got to eat as well). This interview has really helped me realize the need for this course of action.
All in all the interview provides a good reference point to send ‘lay’ users to go and understand what WordPress can be used for and for the rest of us developers, reassurance that our favorite platform is ticking along nicely!
